PAPER QUILT [From: Artmaking]
Written by: Patty E. Tousius [Patty is from the PaintBox in New York]

Age:

2-5 years

Activity Summary:

Little ones will work together to make a large paper quilt. Children will learn about cooperation as they discover texture and begin looking at history.

What You Need:

•different types of paper ie: tissue, sandpaper, glossy paper etc. cut into geometric shapes
•large sheet of heavy paper
•glue

What You Do:

  1. Talk about quilting bees and designs & stories behind them.
  2. Draw a design on large paper for group to fill in by gluing pre-cut geometric paper pieces into patterns.
  3. An alternative would be to use a long sheet of wax paper and only tissue shapes to make a window quilt, for the sun to shine through.
