MUSICAL SHAKERS[From: Music]
Written by: Ann Newton [Ann is a parent, teacher & artist, Connolly Primary School, Perth, Western Australia]

Age:

2-5 years

Activity Summary:

Little ones can make musical shakers using old drink bottles and a few odds and ends.

What You Need:

•Small plastic drink bottles
•Bright coloured paints
•Paintbrushes
•Rice, pasta, sand etc.

What You Do:

  1. Children paint their drink bottle, by holding upside down with their hand on the lid.

  2. Encourage children to cover the whole bottle with different coloured paints.

  3. When dry, these can be filled with rice/uncooked pasta/coloured sand etc. A variety of materials is recommended, as this gives a variety of sounds.

These can then be used as musical instruments during music/movement activities
