Written by: Jantje Blokhuis-Mulder [Jantje is one of the creators of KinderArt.com]

Age:

2-5 years

Activity Summary:

Children can collect, sort and paint everyday objects.

What You Need:

•Small rocks
•Buttons
•Twigs
•Water-Based paint
•Paintbrushes
•Water and water containers
•Paint smocks or old shirts
•A covered work area
•Egg cartons
•Magic markers

What You Do:

  • Have children sort the rocks and buttons into sizes, shapes and colors.
  • The children can use an egg carton each to sort the items.
  • Next, the children can give each of the rocks a name or they can decide if the rocks or buttons are animals or creatures.
  • They can then paint the rocks or buttons or use a magic marker to give them color.
  • If you are feeling adventurous, bring out the glue and let your children glue rocks and buttons together to make creatures.
