MIXING AND SORTING [From: Sorting Activities]
Written by: Jantje Blokhuis-Mulder [Jantje is one of the creators of KinderArt.com]

Age:

2-5 years

Activity Summary:

Young children can find, sort and mix together common kitchen ingredients.

What You Need:

•Bowls or other containers
•Dried peas
•Dried lentils
•Dried kidney beans
•Macaroni
•Dried beans
•Sunflower seeds

What You Do:

  1. Let the children pick up the bits of food using their hands or wooden spoons.

  2. Mix and mess the foods together in different bowls. (You might also use muffin tins and muffin liners as places to sort the items).

  3. Children will enjoy the feel of the dried foods and they will love the different colors they see.

  4. This can be a make-believe cooking session for the little ones.
